Deep Stains

True Stories of Resilience

My latest book, titled “Deep Stains”, tells the harrowing yet inspiring story of three women whose lives were irrevocably altered in the streets of Buenos Aires. They were kidnapped as innocent, very young women from their homes in Poland and brought to Argentina, where, as young girls, they faced unimaginable challenges and were coerced into the dark world of sex work.

Seeds Of Love

Stories Beyond Tourism

The book “Seeds of Love” is deeply rooted in my personal experiences. I have journeyed to Egypt as an Israeli countless times, each visit leaving a lasting mark on my heart. The most profound moments I spent were in the vast, sun-soaked desert on an agricultural farm owned by a young Egyptian man, where the land stretches out under the endless sky, embracing both beauty and hardship.

Violetta and Ginger

Truth Meets Fiction.

I wrote the book “Violetta and Ginger”, deeply inspired by the harrowing testimonies of Holocaust survivors, particularly those who persevered in the forests, resisting the Nazis and their collaborators. At the heart of the story is Violetta, the daughter of a celebrated musician, who found herself caught in a devastating tide of history.

Broken Hearts on Boulevard Unirii

Friendship Across Borders

I wrote “Broken Hearts on Boulevard Unirii” in 2017, a novel inspired by a captivating real-life incident. The story follows a group of Italian men in their middle years, each carrying the weight of their own experiences, as they embark on a journey to visit a long-lost friend who has relocated to the bustling city of Bucharest, Romania.

The Girl From Haukaloolloo

A Tale of Survival and Spirit

“The Girl in Haukaloolloo” is a vivid work of fiction that weaves together imaginative storytelling with poignant historical elements. Set against the backdrop of the turbulent period marked by the pogroms against Jews in Polish towns, the narrative immerses readers in the complexities of life alongside the Gypsies.

Recalled to Life

Memories, Magic, Italy

Recalled to Life” is a fantasy book that holds a special place in my heart. The narrative unfolds in my beloved country, Italy, beginning in a quaint little town nestled along the tranquil banks of the Po River. During my university years, I spent a remarkable year and a half delving into the beauty of the Emilia Romagna region.

Isabella

Truth Behind Isabella

I would like to share some insights into the creation of my book, “Isabella,” which is crafted as an invented autobiography. The character of Isabella is rooted in reality; she was indeed a real person, the daughter of the writer Avraham Shalom Friedberg. Fascinatingly, she is also a second-degree relative of mine, specifically, the cousin of my grandmotheer, Ida Friedberg.

Rembrandt for Sale

Twists Behind Masterpieces

The tale of “Rembrandt for Sale” lingered in my thoughts long before I could weave it into a cohesive narrative. What began as a straightforward thriller soon transformed into a complex double sting, filled with unexpected twists. The characters, while entirely fictional, came alive in my mind, much like pieces on a chessboard.

Identity

From this rich research emerged two heartfelt books, “Lilly’s Album” and “Identity”. Each story is intricately woven with the threads of historical truth and the enduring legacy of family traditions, illuminating the past in a way that honors his memory and the journey of our ancestors.

The Polish Patriot

Stories Carried Across Time

When my father reached the remarkable age of ninety, he began to share the stories of his life with me, opening a window into a world I had never fully understood. I meticulously recorded our conversations, fascinated as he revealed the treasures of an old album that had remained hidden in a closet since he immigrated to Israel in the 1950s.

Lilly's Album

Stories of Family, History, and Legacy

From this rich research emerged two heartfelt books, “Lilly’s Album” and “Identity”. Each story is intricately woven with the threads of historical truth and the enduring legacy of family traditions, illuminating the past in a way that honors his memory and the journey of our ancestors.

Fragments Of Love

Memory, Loss, Hope

The book “Fragments of Love” draws upon a deeply personal experience with dementia, a condition that has touched my life in many profound ways. The mind, often a labyrinth of memories, can lead its occupants astray, leaving loved ones navigating a shifting landscape of emotions from despair to fragile optimism.

Into The Depth Of Silence

Identity, Silence, and Self-Discovery

In the opening sentence of “Into the Depth of Silence,” Graziella hurls a seemingly innocuous question at Beatrice: “Have you ever been told that you have a Jewish nose?” The words hang in the air, stinging Beatrice like a bee’s venom. Offended and bewildered, she grapples with the sting of an identity that feels foreign to her

The Two Margherita

Beautiful Tuscany, History, and Mystery

I write because I love it. As a writer, I create characters and give them a life of their own. I allow them to express themselves according to my vision. When I moved to Cortona, in Tuscany, I encountered breathtaking landscapes, medieval towns, and the authentic personalities of the Tuscan locals.

The Cross and the Almond Tree

For over a thousand years, the hearts of Sicily’s Jews beat to the rhythm of the Mediterranean. Arriving in Roman times, they founded communities along the coast, in Palermo, Messina, Syracuse, and Catania, building lives of faith, craft, and learning. Synagogues rose beside marketplaces; the scent of wine and olives mingled with prayer, and scholars wrote as waves whispered beyond the walls.

Under Arab rule, Jewish culture flourished even more…

Legacy of Shame

All Just to Protect the Family’s Honour

During the celebrations marking the end of World War II in a small village in southern Italy, three daughters vanish without a trace. Twenty years later, buried secrets resurface, forcing the village and their families to confront a legacy of silence, guilt, and shame that has haunted them for decades.

Kadosh

All was done in the name of God

Within an extremist Jewish community, sealed off from the outside world and governed by fear and blind obedience, a love is born between a boy and a girl. It is a quiet, innocent love, one that does not seek to rebel, only to exist. When the community discovers it, it responds swiftly and cruelly: separating them, punishing them, erasing all trace of what was. Life inside the sect is harsh and suffocating, and the individual is expected to surrender the self for the sake of the collective.

How We Studied Italy

(Instead of Studying)

I did not come to Italy to be funny.

I came to study medicine.

In the spring of 1970, I left Israel with one suitcase, a small dictionary, and far more confidence than the situation justified. I believed I would arrive, attend lectures, pass exams, and return home as a respectable doctor. Life, I assumed then, moved in straight lines.

Bologna taught me quickly that straight lines are merely suggestions.
